2013 Outstanding Short Film Finalists Named

Camden, ME, Sept. 27, 2012 - Ten short documentary films from the U.S. and Europe have been named as finalists for the 2013 Cinema Eye Honor for Outstanding Achievement in Nonfiction Short Filmmaking.  The announcement was made on the opening day of the Camden International Film Festival (CIFF) in Camden, Maine.  CIFF is a key festival partner of Cinema Eye and hosts Cinema Eye’s annual Nominees Reception in New York City each January.

The ten finalists are:

Good Bye Mandima (Kwa Heri Mandima) (Switzerland)
directed by Robert-Jan Lacombe

Grandmothers (Abuelas) (UK)
directed by Afarin Eghbal

Into the Middle of Nowhere (UK)
directed by Anna Francis Ewert

Meaning of Robots (USA)
directed by Matt Lenski

Paradise (Paraiso) (USA)
directed by Nadav Kurtz

Five of these films will be announced as nominees in the category when nominations for the 6th Annual Cinema Eye Honors are announced in October 2012.  The awards will be presented in January 2013 in New York City.

Finalists for the Short Filmmaking award were determined in voting by top short film/documentary programmers from international film festivals.  Members of this year’s Short Film Nominations Committee included Karen Cirillo (True/False Film Festival), Charlotte Cook (Hot Docs), Hussain Currimbhoy (Sheffield Doc/Fest), Claudette Godfrey (SXSW), Ben Fowlie (Camden International Film Festival), Ted Mott (Full Frame), Veton Nurkollari (Dokufest Kosovo), Sky Sitney (AFI Silverdocs) and Kim Yutani (Sundance).

This is the third year that Cinema Eye has presented an award for Nonfiction Short Filmmaking.  Previous winners in the category include The Poodle Trainer (directed by Vance Malone, 2011) and Diary (directed by Tim Hetherington, 2012).
